Viola! Chinny's Revelation: The Rules for a [Long Distance] Relationship

.) Never say anything you do not mean.
.) Do not say anything you do not mean.
.) Silence does not mean "The End": it means you should get busy with your homework and keep your head down and out of the past, stick to the present and have your heart set on the future which depends on how well you do in the present--so do not freak out/assume the worst/commit to any sort of back-up-scheme/plan right away.
.) When experiencing body malfunctions, it is always in the best interest for the both of you to tell the other person right away even if it turns out to be nothing at all. Do this, because you love each other and second of all, you love each other...You do not want anything to be wrong with the other person, so do not hesitate/wait!
.) It is always OK to cry! This goes for both partners, it is a very human thing to do.
.) Never ever listen to outside-third-who-the-fucking-hell-are-you-and-by-the-way-who-asked-you-anyway-people's commentary/opinions/and/or suggestions regarding your relationship, because they do not know you or your partner or the relationship situation like you, or your partner or perhaps a second party.
.) "Getting Cold Feet": Remember Rule Number 4 and despite Rule Number 3...If you or your partner have been experiencing any doubt or there has been a change of heart, make plans to discuss with the other partner right away! By no means is a "conversation" via text or AIM or Google Chat, etc, appropriate. (The following methods only apply if this is a long distance relationship) Skype, Google Voice/with or without video or by phone is the only way to converse.
.) Saying "I miss you" or any thought at all, is never annoying and is always appreciated. You may not talk on a regular basis or for a lengthy period, but it is always good to know you are missed, loved, thought of, etc.
.) You need to have something strong than "hope," this is not a game of Bullshit. This is a the real deal. You can never know, but you certainly cannot "not know" when it comes to feelings. This is not a game. So you need to be optimistic, positive and naturally be honest and loyal!
.) Missing is always OK and valid, because naturally if you are not together you do miss one another's company. Your friends however will tire of hearing this and would appreciate not hearing any references, anecdotes or stories regarding your feelings. Keep to a bare minimum. Restraint! They will understand, but remember your personal sworn oath: "Never Forget What It Was Like To Be Single."

Lessons learned, to be learned, to continue to learn...
